About ICARC 2026

Responsible AGI: Balancing Intelligence, Responsibility, and Sustainability.

As Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) rapidly evolves, it presents both transformative opportunities and profound ethical challenges. Responsible AGI development must prioritize not just technical excellence, but also moral responsibility and long-term sustainability. Intelligence alone is not sufficient AGI must be aligned with human values, governed by transparent frameworks, and designed with safety at its core.

Balancing responsibility means ensuring AGI systems are fair, accountable, and free from harmful biases. They must respect human rights, uphold ethical standards, and remain under human control, especially in high-stakes applications such as healthcare, governance, and defense.

Sustainability is equally vital AGI should support social and environmental well-being, not compromise it. Energy efficiency, resource-conscious design, and equitable access are key principles in developing AGI that benefits humanity as a whole.

True progress in AGI lies in harmonizing intelligence with human-centered design and global ethical imperatives. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among technologists, ethicists, policymakers, and communities, we can guide AGI towards a future where it empowers rather than endangers. Responsible AGI is not just a technical goal; it is a moral commitment to shaping a just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all.

In this concept, 6th International Conference on Advanced Research in Computing (ICARC 2026) is organized by the Faculty of Computing, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka will take place on the 18th and 19th of February 2026 in Hybrid mode under the theme “Responsible AGI: Balancing Intelligence, Responsibility and Sustainability”.

The conference features keynote and plenary speeches from eminent scholars and industry experts, oral presentations, pre-conference workshops and tutorials, and public discussions to provide ample opportunities for discussion and knowledge dissemination in a wide range of computing disciplines.

Faculty of Computing takes pride in remarking that ICARC 2026 fifth consecutive year will be technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Global, IEEE Sri Lanka Section, IEEE Computer Society of Sri Lanka Chapter, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Sri Lanka Chapter, IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Sri Lanka Chapter, IEEE Signal Processing Chapter, IEEE GRSS Chapter and IEEE Communications Society Sri Lanka Chapter.

The accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore, subject to meeting IEEE Xplore's scope and quality requirements.
